FISHERIES
Cape Verde
Fisheries partnership agreement
The current fisheries partnership agreement between the EU and Cape Verde entered into force on 20.3.2007 for a period of 5 years. It has been tacitly renewed, from 29.03.2012 to 29.03.2017.
This fisheries agreement allows EU vessels from Spain, Portugal and France to fish in the Cape Verde waters and is part of the tuna network fisheries agreements in West Africa.
There is currently no Protocol in force under the Agreement. The previous protocol expired on 31 August 2014. It covered the period 1.9.2011-31.8.2014 with a financial contribution of 435 000 € including 110 000 € for supporting the implementation of the sectoral fisheries policy of Cape Verde.
On 28 August 2014, a new Protocol was initialed between the EU and Cape Verde. The new Protocol will cover a period of 4 years and will offer 71 EU vessels fishing possibilities for tuna in Cape Verdean waters. In return, the EU will pay Cape Verde a financial contribution of 550 000 € per year in the first two years of application of the Protocol and of 500 000 € per year in the last two years. Half of this yearly contribution will be earmarked to promote the sustainable management of fisheries in Cape Verde, including reinforcement of control and surveillance capacities, and to support the local fishing communities.
The Protocol will enter into force when the necessary legislative procedures for its signature and provisional application have been completed.

  2. Amigo amendes, parece que o acordo não é nada vantajoso para Cabo Verde. Segundo li noutro lado, as redes levam tudo, nem o mané-cabeça escapa.
